After two kids my core never came back, no matter how much I trained. The muscle repair made a bigger difference than I expected, and the recovery plan meant I always knew what week two and week six should feel like.Danielle R.Calgary, Mahogany

Post-pregnancy restoration
What a mommy makeover actually is

A mommy makeover is not one operation. It is a plan that combines two or more procedures to repair the specific changes pregnancy and breastfeeding left behind, usually a body procedure and a breast procedure done under one anaesthetic.
Pregnancy stretches the abdominal wall, the skin over it and the breast tissue. For many women, exercise and diet bring the weight back down but cannot close separated muscles, remove stretched skin or restore breast volume and position. That is the gap surgery fills.
Combining procedures means one surgery date, one block of time off work and one period of help with childcare, instead of two or three separate recoveries. It also lets your surgeon plan the result as a whole, so the proportions of your chest and waist suit each other.
Every plan starts with a private consultation in Calgary. You talk through what bothers you, your surgeon examines the areas involved, and you leave with a written recommendation and cost estimate. There is no obligation to book.
What types of post-pregnancy changes do we treat?
These are the changes Calgary moms ask about most often. Most plans address two or three of them together.
Separated abdominal muscles
Diastasis recti leaves a gap down the midline of the abdomen and a belly that pushes forward even at a healthy weight. When the gap stays open a year after delivery, physiotherapy alone rarely closes it.
About 60 percent of women have diastasis recti six weeks after giving birth, and roughly a third still do at twelve months (Sperstad et al., British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2016).Loose skin and an overhang
Skin that stretched over a full-term pregnancy, especially twins or several pregnancies, may not retract. The result is a fold of skin below the belly button that clothing presses on.
More than 170,000 tummy tucks were performed in the United States in 2023, one of the five most common cosmetic operations (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).Lost breast volume
After breastfeeding, the upper half of the breast often empties out. Breasts can look flatter and smaller than before pregnancy even when the cup size feels similar.
Breast augmentation is consistently among the top cosmetic surgeries, with over 300,000 procedures in the United States in 2023 (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).Sagging breasts
Stretched skin and ligaments let the breast and nipple sit lower on the chest. A lift repositions the tissue; implants alone cannot raise a nipple that sits below the breast fold.
Surgeons grade sagging on the Regnault scale from mild to severe; the grade decides whether a lift, an implant or both is recommended.Stubborn fat deposits
Flanks, hips, inner thighs and the bra line often hold fat that does not respond to training. Liposuction contours these areas; it is not a weight-loss procedure.
Liposuction was the most performed cosmetic surgery in the United States in 2023, at over 340,000 procedures (American Society of Plastic Surgeons).C-section scars and stretch marks
A tummy tuck often removes the C-section scar and most stretch marks below the belly button. Marks above it can be softened with laser and microneedling.
Roughly one in three births in Canada is by caesarean section (Canadian Institute for Health Information). What types of mommy makeover procedures do we offer?

These pairings come up most often in consultation. They are starting points, not packages; your surgeon tailors the final plan.
Tummy tuck with breast lift
The classic combination for skin laxity on the abdomen and breasts that sit lower after nursing. It repairs separated muscles, removes loose skin and repositions the breast without changing its size. A good fit if you are happy with your volume but not its position. See the tummy tuck and breast lift pages.
Tummy tuck with breast lift and implants
For moms who lost both volume and position after breastfeeding. The lift raises the breast while a modest implant restores upper fullness. Because this is the longest combination, some surgeons stage it. Read more about a breast lift with implants.
Mini tummy tuck with liposuction
Suited to a smaller pocket of loose skin below the belly button and fat on the flanks, without major muscle separation. Shorter scar, shorter operation and a faster return to normal life. See mini tummy tuck and liposuction.
Breast augmentation with liposuction
When the abdomen recovered well but breasts lost volume and fat settled on the hips or flanks. Fat removed by liposuction can sometimes be used for fat transfer instead of, or alongside, an implant. See breast augmentation.
Why Calgary moms choose us
Certified plastic surgeons only
Every procedure on this site is performed by a plastic surgeon certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In Canada, "cosmetic surgeon" is not a protected title, so we think it matters that you can check the credential yourself. Surgery takes place in a non-hospital surgical facility accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, which inspects staffing, equipment and emergency procedures.
FRCSC certification and CPSA facility accreditationHonest plans, sometimes smaller ones
Not every mom needs a full tummy tuck, implants or a second procedure. We would rather recommend a mini tummy tuck and liposuction that fits than a larger operation that does not. Your written plan explains why each procedure is included, what it costs and what it will not fix, so you can compare it fairly with any other opinion.
Itemised written estimate after every consultationA recovery plan built around kids
The hardest part of a mommy makeover is not the surgery, it is the six weeks of not lifting a toddler. Before surgery we map out who helps with childcare, when you can drive, what week two and week six should feel like and when your follow-up visits fall. Optional lymphatic drainage sessions are scheduled into the same plan.
Week-by-week recovery guide for every patientBook this week, plan for next season
Most patients book surgery two to four months after their consultation. Starting now means you can plan recovery around school, work and the people helping you.
- Private consultation with a plastic surgeon
- Written plan and itemised estimate
- No obligation and no pressure to book
Mommy makeover recovery, week by week
Timelines vary with the procedures combined. This is a typical path for a tummy tuck with a breast procedure.

- Days 1 to 7: rest at homeSomeone stays with you for the first 48 hours. You walk short distances several times a day to protect circulation, sleep slightly bent at the waist and wear your compression garment around the clock.
- Weeks 2 to 3: light routinesDrains are usually out. Many patients return to desk work and short drives once off prescription pain medication. Still no lifting heavier than about 5 kg, which rules out most toddlers.
- Weeks 4 to 6: building backSwelling settles noticeably. Walking becomes longer and easier, and lymphatic drainage sessions help. Lifting restrictions continue until your surgeon clears you.
- Weeks 6 to 8: back to normal lifeMost patients are cleared to lift children and return to the gym gradually, starting with lower-body work and avoiding core loading until approved.
- Months 3 to 12: the final resultResidual swelling resolves and scars fade from pink to pale. Scar treatment can begin once incisions have fully healed.
Calgary winter tip: icy sidewalks and stairs are a real fall risk in the first two weeks after abdominal surgery. If your surgery is between November and March, plan a salted path, a ride to every follow-up and a supply of loose, front-opening layers that fit over your garment.
What Calgary moms say
I was nervous about looking overdone. We talked through sizing for almost an hour and the result looks like me before breastfeeding, just lifted.Priya S.Airdrie
The consultation was honest. I came in asking for a full tummy tuck and was told a mini plus some lipo would suit me better. They were right.Megan T.Cochrane
Having both procedures done together meant one recovery instead of two. My husband took two weeks off, my mom helped with the kids, and the staged plan made it manageable.Alyssa K.Okotoks
How much does a mommy makeover cost in Calgary?
There is no single price because no two plans are the same. Your estimate depends on these factors:
- Procedures combined. A full tummy tuck with a breast lift and implants involves more operating time than a mini tummy tuck with liposuction.
- Operating time and anaesthesia. Surgeon, anaesthesiologist and facility fees scale with the length of surgery.
- Implants. Silicone and saline implants are priced differently, and implant choice adds to breast procedure costs.
- Overnight care. Longer combined surgeries may include an overnight stay with nursing care.
- Garments and aftercare. Compression garments, scar products and lymphatic sessions.
- GST. The Canada Revenue Agency treats purely cosmetic procedures as taxable, so GST is added to the total.
You receive a written, itemised estimate after your consultation. Ask us about financing options at that visit.

Mommy makeover questions
How much does a mommy makeover cost in Calgary?
Most combined plans in Calgary fall in a wide range because the price depends on which procedures you combine, operating time, anaesthesia, facility fees and garments. A tummy tuck with a breast lift costs more than a mini tummy tuck with liposuction. You receive a written, itemised estimate after your consultation, and GST applies to cosmetic procedures in Canada.
How long should I wait after having a baby?
Most plastic surgeons recommend waiting at least six months after delivery and around three to six months after you finish breastfeeding, so that your weight and breast size have settled. Waiting until you are finished having children gives the most durable result.
What does recovery look like?
Expect one to two weeks of limited activity, help with lifting children for about six weeks, and a compression garment for four to six weeks. Most patients return to desk work in two to three weeks and to full exercise around eight weeks, as cleared by their surgeon.
Does Alberta Health Care cover a mommy makeover?
Cosmetic procedures are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. Some breast reductions and some hernia repairs may qualify for coverage when they meet medical criteria, which requires a physician referral and assessment.
Can every procedure be done in one surgery?
Many patients combine a body procedure and a breast procedure in one operation. Safety limits on operating time mean some plans are staged into two surgeries a few months apart. Your surgeon decides this based on your health and the procedures involved.
Do you see patients from outside Calgary?
Yes. We see patients from Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, Strathmore and across southern Alberta, and we plan follow-up visits so the drive stays manageable during recovery.
